How to Set Up Direct Deposit

August 5, 2024

Direct deposit is the fastest, most convenient way to load funds and receive payments on your Platinum smiONE™ Visa® Prepaid Card Account. And, direct deposit adds another layer of security by eliminating the need to carry (and potentially lose) checks. Continue reading to learn how you can enroll in direct deposit through your smiONE Card and start receiving your funds as soon as possible.

What is direct deposit?

Direct deposit is an electronic transfer of funds directly into your account, making it so you don’t have to wait for a check to clear. You can use direct deposit for paychecks, government payments, or other funds. Often, if you have more than one account, you can split your direct deposits between accounts, allowing more flexibility. Many financial institutions even offer promotions or additional features for those who enroll in direct deposit.

Benefits of Direct Deposit

There are many reasons that direct deposit is probably a better idea than sticking to paper checks. It can help you streamline your finances and make the most of your money.

1. Fast—receive your funds quicker by removing the need to deposit checks and wait for them to clear.

2. Easy—it can take only minutes to enroll in direct deposit.

3. Flexibility and Convenience—save time without having to wait in line at the bank or ATM, directly deposit your funds into multiple accounts, and reduce your risk of payment delay when you can’t make it to the bank due to weather, illness, or any other reason.

4. Security—eliminate the threat of lost or stolen checks.

5. Environmentally-friendly—reduce your carbon footprint by going paperless (don’t worry, you’ll still be able to access copies of your pay stub or statement).

6. Cost-effective—save money on check cashing and mobile check load, without having to wait for your money.

Ways to Set Up Direct Deposit on Your smiONE Card Account

To enroll in direct deposit, you’ll need your smiONE routing number and account number. To locate these details, navigate to the “Manage” tab in your smiONE mobile app or online account center. Then, select “Direct Deposit.”

Online Portal

Often, your employer or other payor (like a government agency) will have an online portal where you can enter your details to enroll in direct deposit. Using this method, you should:

1. Log in to the portal and navigate to a section for payment methods or direct deposit.

2. Enter your account and routing number along with any other necessary information (some may require you to enter the name of your financial institution, along with other details about them.)

3. Choose and enter the amount of each payment you would like deposited into the account. You can choose any percentage.

Pre-filled Form

If your payor doesn’t have a portal, you can simply generate your own direct deposit enrollment form from the smiONE mobile app or your online account center. To do this:

1. Log in to your smiONE Card Account on the mobile app or online account center.

2. Navigate to the “Manage” tab.

3. Select “Direct Deposit” and click “Download Direct Deposit Form.”

4. Download or print the form.

5. Complete the form by choosing the amount of each payment you would like deposited into the account and signing the form.

6. Provide the completed form to your employer or payor via email or in-person.
